I will be appearing at the 2009 Hobbystar Fan Expo in Toronto (August 28-30), and will be sketching and painting there. However if you already know you might want a sketch from me, I’m taking orders for advance commissions - that way I can guarantee that I’ll get to you, and you won’t have to wait for your piece!
The options are:

black and white ink on 9×12 or 11×14 bristol
full color watercolor on 9×12 or 11×14 watercolor paper

I am the featured illustrator on The 5 Lights Project this month, and will be posting one painting each week in July there.

Will Hindmarch interviews me at Jet Pack about it as well: http://www.jet-pack.net/?p=449

And I will have more news soon!

Popgun vol. 3 is out today! My story, "Same Again", with Justin Randall, is on page 299. If the book is a comix mix-tape, my story is the strange goth dance dirge on side two. The most excellent Jim Zubkavich has two stories in the book, proving that he is the man capable of both hit singles and sweet B-sides.

Go buy it, is what I'm saying!

Hey all! I've been nominated in the Best Writer category for the 2009 Joe Shuster awards!

http://joeshusterawards.com/2009/04/02/nominations-for-the-2009-joe-shuster-awards/

The considered work is THE APOCALIPSTIX! I'm in staggeringly good company up there - Darwyn Cooke, Mariko Tamaki, Cecil Castelluci, and more. I'd take membership in that club any day.

Okay. You're not seeing much from me online these days, and that's because I'm working. I think I ought to show you a couple of things, because they're nearing availability.

Short stories of mine will be appearing in Popgun Vol. 3 from Image Comics and the Flinch anthology from Gestalt Press. I'm not sure when, exactly, both books ship.

I've also completed two sketchbooks, which will be sold at shows beginning at Wondercon in San Francisco this February. One is a colour, 32-page collection of painted sketches of derby girls - limited to 100 copies signed and numbered. The other is a black and white, 16-page collection out of my sketchbook for the year, limited to 200 copies signed and numbered. A sample from each:

These sketchbooks will be sold with the intent of raising funds so that I can print a forthcoming OGN, both written and illustrated by myself. Here are four quick glimpses of the work, all of one of the two protagonists:

There are other things. But I don't want to talk about them yet.

Elizabeth Gilbert is possessed of Genius:

I'm working. Back from New York and thrown directly into my work, like a soldier returned to the shuddering front lines from the incongruously ordinary streets of a city furlough. This speech was exactly what I wanted and needed to hear this morning, as I take up the brush.
